Surgery Scheduled

Quick update: Willow is scheduled for surgery at Rood & Riddle with the amazing Dr. Ruggles at 7am (central time).  Martha (my trainer, friend, etc.) and Michael (my husband) are on their long way home from Lexington and feeling very comforted after meeting Dr. Ruggles and seeing the state of the art facilities at this amazing equine hospital.  I am so lucky to have them both and am grateful for their help.  I am praying for Willow to make it through surgery with great success.  Thank you to everyone for such beautiful comments, stories, prayers, etc.  here and on Facebook as well.  And I was so touched when I saw that my fans, friends, customers, etc. have been posting on behalf of Willow on the Rood & Riddle Facebook page...   wow...  people are so wonderful and amazing.  I am so so blessed.  xo

  4. May the doctor be well- rested and may God guide his hands and give him wisdom to do what he needs to do to fix Willow's leg. It's going to be a long night for you as you anticipate that 7am start time for the surgery. Peace be with you and I also pray that Willow is coping through the night.
    Bless..

  11. I saw Rood and Riddle's post this morning so I had to look into what was going on with this beautiful horse! She is so lucky to have someone like you to take care of her. I've lived in KY my whole life and she could not be at a better place. If anything were to ever happen to my horse that is where I would send him. I have been to Rood and Riddle numerous times and they have the best doctors and the best facility in the world! Your Willow is VERY lucky. She will get to recover next to Rachel Alexandra the great race horse! I am sure she will have many stories to share when she gets home! I will continue to follow and pray for her and pray for your strength because she needs you right now. God puts these horses in our lives for a reason and I would not have it any other way. They are truely a gift!!

  14. Shana-- I live in Lexington and am familiar with Rood & Riddle. Before he retired, my dad was an insurance adjuster for thoroughbreds, primarily, which were insured with Lloyds of London. Dad was very involved in MANY famous horses lives when they became sick or hurt so he knows many vets across this side of the country. I just called him to ask about Dr. Ruggles. He doesn't know him because he must have come on board after Dad retired. However, there are three other vets out there who Dad knows very well. He said people can go and see the horses (well, some ... most likely no one would get to see Rachel Alexander, for instance) and he also suggested that I try to reach one of the vets he knows who would help make sure I could visit your Willow. I will send an email to Rood & Riddle today, or call them. I don't have my camera at work with me today but will bring it tomorrow. I have part of tomorrow afternoon off work and can go to the hospital to visit Willow and I'll take some pictures of her for you, so you can see how she's doing. I have video on my camera, also, but have to say I haven't used it. If nothing else, I can shoot some video on my iPhone to send to you. I know you don't know me, but ever since I bought some of your action sets several months ago, I've followed you on Facebook and read your blog when I get the chance. I just read your latest blog with tears streaming down my face and know Willow is in surgery now. I'm praying so hard for her and for you. Know that God is with the doctors and has his hands on your shoulders, to bring you some calm in the middle of this storm. Please keep us all updated on how the surgery went. Horses are very special creatures ... so many of us love them and we know that God brought you and Willow together so she could become a healthy, happy and much loved horse. Let me know how I can get pictures to you. --Claire in Lexington.
