Day 2 - going a bit better

Willow was not well at all this morning...  but Martha came over and treated her while I groomed her.   Since then, she has been eating better and seems to be doing much better.  And the best news is that when Michael took the new guy (still needs a name) from the stall next to her, Willow whinnied as he walked out. Then we he returned, she greeted him!  Martha says she likes him, so that makes me VERY happy.  I'm so happy she has him... especially during the long nights in her stall.  More tomorrow... :)

  4. Yea! I hope you have so many "better days" that the bad ones become a distant memory.
Romeo might be a good name for "the new guy"

  8. So glad Willow is feeling better and likes her new friend. He should make a wonderful companion. Gypsy horses can be so deep and affectionate and then be total silly clowns. Love and blessings.

  9. I am so glad that Willow is home with you now. She has been through a major ordeal so I imagine that is why her choking is worse. The trauma of the injury, surgery and being in a strange place for a week probably put more stress on her than we would think causing a setback. But being home and with you will surely help her get back to a healthy state. How lucky is she that she has someone who loves and cares for her like you do. And even your efforts to find her a friend is so incredible. Reading your story makes me want to go out and rescue a horse but we need to move to the country first! :)

  10. I'm happy Willow is back home, and I'm sure that will go a long way in helping her heal more quickly. I'm super happy to know that she seems to be accepting of her new companion. Even a queen needs someone special by her side.

Maybe "Oakley" could be an option for the new guy's name. Hmm... Willow and Oakley. Well, I'm sure you're going to select the perfect name at the right time and, regardless of his name, I'm hopeful your two beautiful horses have a long and lasting friendship.

  11. Her healing will proceed faster now that she is surrounded by love! Take Care of yourself, so you can be strong for her. Love hearing that big boy is growing on her!

  12. So glad that Willow is home. Everyone heals better at home! I am glad too that her new companion is nuzzling up to her. What a sweet boy to break the rules and to let Willow know that he comes in peace. I think they are going to be fast friends!

  14. Good to hear today's going better. One day at a time. If I can't wait for pictures of Willow and ? (Gypsy Dancer, or Dancer for short?(because in that first pic of him he looked like he was dancing and of course the Gypsy connection)), after Willow's healed and gets up to speed, I know you must be going crazy to get through all this and just be able to play with them without all the worry... It will come, my friend ;)
    Hugs to all...

  15. I wish you could get her back on the EMP meds! Soon right? Seemed like she was doing so well on those. So glad she likes her new buddy, I mean...what is not to like? He's the cutest thing ever! Love the updates, sorry it's so hard but you guys are doing amazing!

  16. I love your stories here. It sounds like Willow's new friend is going to help her heal even faster. One day at a time. You should really consider turning your blog into a book about Velvet Willow and your journey with her.

  18. Ever since your very first words describing your new horse, I've felt so strongly that he's such a close and wonderful 'horse version' of my big, goofy, sweetly-awkward kitty boy, Boone. I think the same thing with each photograph. I think Boone is the best name in the world - if you think it fits him, he's welcome to share. :)

  19. I"m so glad Willow and her friend are becoming buddies. Just curious - what was/is his name? I mean I guess what I'm asking is most grown horses come with a name. Maybe I missed what that was? But you are changing it yes? I got my boy when he was 7 and I was determined to change his name. I thought I hated his name. But then I realized that is who he is. He was 7 years old and he knew his name of course. I couldn't bring myself to change it on him. lol

    1. Jen, his name was Jack but they called him three different things (barely ever jack)... my mother's awful abusive biological father's name was Jack.. so even if he was used to it, I'd have changed it. He really doesn't know any name, so it's fine. But also, I'm of the belief that when a horse is sold (I've never sold one) that everything changes... their entire life... so I actually not only think changing their name isn't a big deal in relation to everything else, but I thing sometimes it's the best thing to do. New home, new family, new name... new start on life... (just my opinion) :) p.s. We do have a gelding named Charlie when we got him.. he knew it, it fit him, so we kept it. We changed willow's name because we had NO idea what her name was when we got her... Oh, and we didn't change our barncat's name which is Oliver (even though our son is named Oliver lol) :)

  20. You could call him Jackson. With those bell bottom feet he could've been a member of the Jackson 5! And doesn't Michael Jackson have a song Black or White? :)

  21. Okay, question: Horses learn their names? Really?

    Learned something else today!

  22. do you soak her hay and feed? the choking definitely sounds related to the EPM. Is she still beaing treated? Perhaps there is nerve damage.

    1. She refuses to eat anything soaked... :( We've tried everything... We do believe there is nerve damage, yes... she just went back on EPM meds...
